About the course
Bachelor of Technology (Hons) in Automotive course is designed to produce knowledgeable and competent human resource in the automotive sector that is capable of using engineering and technical skills in support of engineers and other professionals engaged in developing, manufacturing and operational testing, inspection and maintenance of the automotive system. Students are exposed to relevant knowledge, technical and practical skills in diagnosing, repairing and analysing automotive systems and technology. Competent leadership qualities and professionalism is emphasised. Students are encouraged to have a lifelong learning attitude to keep abreast of the latest automotive technological changes. They also use checklists and technical manuals to conduct tests and make sure that different parts of a vehicle are functioning properly. Routine maintenance work include changing oil, checking fluid levels, and rotating tyres. Automotive technicians also repair or replace worn parts, such as brake pads, wheel bearings, and sensors. Some automotive technicians may specialise in a particular area of repair work such as brakes, transmission, air conditioning, car tuning or integrated electronics systems.
Some of the common subjects you may learn in an automotive technology diploma include: electricity and electronics; brakes, steering and suspensions; engine performance; transmissions; air conditioning; engines; diesels; hybrids; electronic and diagnostic equipment; chassis systems; computer controlled systems; mechanical and workshop practices; vehicle maintenance and servicing; emission systems and turbochargers; and customer service and workshop management.
