About the course
Bachelor of Biotechnology (Hons) course is designed to produce knowledgeable and competent human resources who are equipped with advanced knowledge and extensive hands-on-experience in the area of biotechnology. Students are exposed with related knowledge, techniques, practical skills and issues pertaining to the advancement and development of biotechnology, locally and globally. This programme also cultivates soft skills and fundamental skills in the areas of management and entrepreneurship that are essential in their future working environments. Biotechnology applies scientific and engineering principles to living organisms in order to produce products and services of value to society. It is used in processes ranging from cheese production, brewing, and wastewater management, through to drug design and gene therapy. The Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours) program that allows students to further develop their specific areas of interest. This degree prepares students for careers in biotechnology as well as providing a pathway into Research Higher Degree studies. On successful completion of the program students will have in-depth knowledge and ability to undertake further study and research in Biotechnology. Ability to develop, construct and manage a research project in Biotechnology. Critically and independently reflect and analyse project results. Ability to communicate a convincing and reasoned scientific argument at a level and style appropriate to the audience and to report scientific findings in an oral and substantial written format. Ability to work on an advanced scientific activity both autonomously and collaboratively. Bachelor of Biotechnology (Honours) allows the exploration of research possibilities in this field; it gives you preparation for professional life or a higher degree by research through the development of an advanced knowledge of the research principles and methods and theoretical concepts of your discipline, and through the design and implementation of a research project, that develops new understandings or provides solutions to complex problems.
