About the course
BA (Hons) Interior Design course is a creative and challenging programme that introduces students to all aspects of interior design. They will develop a range of practical and intellectual skills that encourage risk-taking and inventive problem-solving approaches. Students will also continue building an understanding of the design industry by working with clients and industry professionals on ‘live projects’, mirroring the employment experience. These commercial projects will also help students understand the business context of design, preparing them for a career.
Studio-based learning enables students to develop creative and technical skills. They will work both collaboratively and individually while taking part in small group tutorials in a studio environment. Students will have opportunities to visit design consultancies, industrial facilities, museums and exhibitions. These visits contribute to the development of a deeper contextual and industrial understanding of interior design, with direct links to studio based projects or theoretical studies. The BA (Hons) Interior Design course offers students a more in-depth and professional approach to specific design projects as well as providing the student with an impressive qualification. This course is the ideal next step for students. This course covers a wide range of modules aimed at shaping the student’s mind set and knowledge base so that they can complete a design project in an accurate, creative and timely manner, whilst also satisfying the exact specifications of their client brief.

In this case, students need to demonstrate the ability to communicate their design ideas professionally, using a variety of media and techniques.

An International Study Tour will be scheduled in Year 2.
Through a process of research and discussion with academic staff, students determine a body of self-directed study that allows them to develop a personal area of interest related to the field of Interior Design. By taking increased responsibility for the management of their own work, students are prepared for life as a professional designer.
The number and content of the projects students undertake in the third year can be negotiated. However, the academic team will offer advice that enables students to develop a portfolio that best supports their career aspirations. It is also essential that students support their dissertations and design projects with a body of thorough and convincing research and development.
