About the course
Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) is designed to prepare ESL educators who are theoretically informed and practically equipped, caring, committed, and competent for the higher learning institutional sector. The graduates of this programme would be capable of using knowledge of the current trends in language teaching, apply creative approaches to teaching and problem-solving and intergrate computer skills in classroom teaching. TESOL is designed to give you a good understanding of English and second language learning from a language teaching perspective. You will first develop your skills and knowledge in language analysis, language teaching and learning. At a more advanced level you will learn about the principles and practices of designing and delivering language teaching tasks, lessons and courses. Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) will equip you with concepts and skills that you can later develop through a teacher training qualification. By taking a module you can focus the study outside your majors on a specific, skills-based area. This will enable you to add to your skill set for future employment, develop skills that you can use in the workplace, stand out from other graduates and enhance your career prospects. The content and skills offered by modules may help inform or benefit future potential career paths. As Modules are formally acknowledged on your academic record, you will be able to demonstrate your ability in a specific set of skills or areas of knowledge outside your majors. The course is designed to enable you to develop your own ability to teach English to non-native speakers whilst enabling you to think about how language in general and English in particular functions in the world today. You will develop a set of linguistic and analytical skills, which will help you become a highly-skilled communicator.
